Zoë Camper FRSA - TCM Founder and Lead

I am a practicing artist. I make things because I love doing it, it’s my way of communicating and it brings me joy. What interests me is the world we have created, the technology we have developed to make life easier, or more complicated; and how creativity plays a key part in us being human. I want to understand how we have arrived at the world we see around us and what is actually possible when we create our own realities. There’s a message in everything I produce whether it’s a comment on how technology works, or doesn’t, or a simple expression of the importance of friendship. It’s about living well, waking up every morning and saying what is the best thing I can do today, what do I want to impart, what’s my point?
If I describe my work, I would say that it usually starts with a story, a point I am trying to make, and of course, my pencils (my favorite medium). My work falls into different styles and categories including fantastical landscapes, explorations of industrial and technological equipment, portraiture, and conceptual works. I am inspired by the built environment, fantasy, and simply experimenting with different types of imagery. I love joining art and technology together, it’s the thing that brings me the most satisfaction and the subject I think I have the most to say about.
I love experimenting with different technologies including encryption, and the process required to encrypt, obscure, hide, and reveal messages in my work. I use XR and other digital tools to both produce and influence my work, this has enabled me to push the boundaries of both analog and digital formats. I also use encryption to ensure provenance, and proof of authenticity, using the same decentralized encryption techniques as blockchain and NFT’s.
I launched The ValleRy in June 2024, a VR hybrid gallery connected to my home studio to give me more exhibition space and to showcase other artists and the work of the Creative Measure group. I have exhibited in the UK and USA and have spoken at many conferences around the world; I also led the team that created the UK’s first IBM Watson AI virtual health companion. That was an amazing experience and one that has influenced me in terms of understanding communication and the ways in which we tell stories.
The Creative Measure is where I work with others to promote the importance of creativity. I am concerned that we all have a chance to comment on and impact what technologies are used and what they are used for in our world. We have produced three experimental exhibitions (London, Worcester Uni, and Las Vegas and in VR), and publications combining unlikely, or disruptive sources to push creativity’s boundaries, and generate exciting thinking, and new partnerships.
I am a London native based in Fabulous Las Vegas. I am CEO of Zoë Camper LLC, a Fellow of The Royal Society of the Arts, co-founder of the Creative Measure, and Goldwell Open Air Museum Board member. I have lectured at UAL (University of the Arts London), taught at The BBC Academy, helped build Cyberia Cyber Cafes around the world, run my own internet business, as well as teaching design technology in a UK State School. I have a Post Graduate Cert of Education and Hons Degree in 3D Design.
